Sustainability at Trinity
At Trinity, sustainability is more than just a subject — it’s a way of life that runs through everything we do. This year has been full of exciting projects and achievements, and we’re proud to say that our efforts have been recognised with the Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction.
What we’ve achieved this year
-
Waste reduction – we carried out whole-school waste audits, introduced clearer recycling systems, and ran our Waste-Free Wednesday challenge to help families reduce lunchbox waste.
-
Biodiversity projects – the children have been busy planting saplings, creating bug hotels, adding hedgehog homes, and hanging bird feeders to support local wildlife.
-
Forest School Farm – our growing family of animals, including goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs, have become part of our sustainability journey. Caring for them teaches responsibility, empathy, and respect for nature.
-
Growing and cooking – with the help of our polytunnel and raised beds, children have grown fruit and vegetables from seed, learning about food miles, composting, and the importance of healthy eating.
-
Community connections – from working with local organisations like WOW (War on Waste) and the City Council recycling team, to our new partnership with Watermeadow Grange Residential Home, sustainability at Trinity is something we share with our wider community.
-
Eco Team leadership – our brilliant Eco Team have led assemblies, monitored recycling, encouraged energy saving, and kept the school motivated week by week.
Why it matters
All of this work links directly to our school vision of “learning together to enjoy life in all its fullness.” By looking after our environment, learning how to live more sustainably, and sharing those lessons with our community, our children are not only learning important life skills but also becoming caring citizens and responsible global stewards.
