History – Our content, aims and concepts
The History Curriculum at Trinity aims to inspire our pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past and to stimulate the children’s interest and understanding about the life of the people who lived in the past. We teach children a sense of chronology and help pupils to understand the process of change and to appreciate how events in the past have influenced our lives today; we also teach them to investigate these past events and, by doing so, to develop the skills of enquiry, analysis, interpretation and problem-solving.
In Key Stage 1, pupils develop an awareness of the past, using common words and phrases related to the passing of time. In Key Stage 2, pupils continue to develop a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of both British and World History.
By the end of year 6, children will have a chronological understanding from the Stone Age to the present day. They will be able to draw comparisons and make connections between different time periods and their own lives.
